About

Alex Silverman is an experienced Composer and Musical Director. He has recently composed music for two productions at Shakespeare’s Globe: Romeo and Juliet and Much Ado about Nothing. Cloudcuckooland, a re-interpretation of Aristophanes’ The Birds, for which Alex was the composer, has been nominated for a 2008 Total Theatre Award for Story Theatre. Alex is the composer for Crunch! (Total Theatre Award Nominee) at the Arts Theatre, Richard III and Othello at Southwark Playhouse, and the national tour of Pete and Dud: Come Again.

Alex’s work in musical theatre includes Hamlet! the Musical, which has toured in the UK and the Far East, and Horatio Bottomley, a community piece written for the Countryside Agency.

Alex recently completed a run as Vocal Director for critically acclaimed musical Eurobeat: Almost Eurovision (Sarajevo) the Novello Theatre in London’s West End and is currently Musical Director for the Royal Court Theatre’s production of Wig Out! In 2007 he was musical director for three shows at the Edinburgh Fringe, including the critically acclaimed Certified Male at Assembly, and was Chorus Master for the premiere and tour of Julian Joseph's jazz-opera Bridgetower with English Touring Opera.

Outside of the theatre, Alex has worked with a wide variety of artists and ensembles including Philharmonia Orchestra and New Kent Opera. He composed an arrangement for Hot Chip and composed for programmes on Artsworld TV, BBC Radio 4 and Channel 4.
