WE ARE KLANG - BBC THREE FROM 30TH JULY

Extremely clever at being stupid, if.comedy and Barry Award nominees We Are Klang are about to unleash their inimitable brand of buffoonery onto BBC Three. Filmed in front of a live studio audience, their new show sees this menagerie à trois of the comedy world running the council offices of Klangbury, where they inflict their unfathomable incompetence across this once smoothly functioning town.

Meet our three lovable loser-heroes - Council-leader Greg (super-stressed, fat, delusions of competence), Councillor Marek (hapless, hairless simpleton who looks like a "strangled baby"), and Councillor Steve (unflappable sociopath with an oddly elastic face).

Each week, their ineptitude scales increasingly improbable heights as they're called upon to resolve a municipal issue or impending disaster. With the ill-tempered Mayor (DEBBIE CHAZEN) on the warpath as each new calamity strikes, the boys live in constant fear of all manner of brutal punishments. But salvation is invariably snatched from the jaws of debacle as the three bungling idiots rally together to save the day, usually assisted by an unlikely chunk of luck.

They will be joined along the way by Mr. Schnitzer (Marek’s cuddly toy and only friend), the Mayor’s gormless assistant Leslie, plus a host of Klangbury residents including: Derren Chillblaine, the magical sensation with a mystical vocation; Derek Upon-Tweed, the demented theatre mogul; and a local news reporter several stages into a full nervous breakdown. Oh, and the AINSLEY HARRIOTT. No, really.

Plus, say hello to the ever-present Department of Audience, who gleefully join in the fun, singing along with the songs, volunteering their occasionally helpful suggestions, and egging the boys on like a deranged Greek chorus. There’s never been a show quite like it - brace yourselves...

We Are Klang will transmit on BBC Three for six weeks from Thursday 30th July

“This is stupid comedy done with great intelligence…Buy, borrow or steal to
see this uproarious sketch trio in the funniest show on the fringe…”

Dominic Maxwell, The Times

"I have seen the future of comedy and it is We Are Klang."

Bruce Dessau, Evening Standard

“A chaotic masterclass in physical clowning.”
Stephen Armstrong, The Sunday Times

“Non-stop boisterous fun delivered with such gloriously effervescent excess that it's impossible to resist. They are, simply, the best idiots in Britain.”
Steve Bennett, Chortle

“This trio have to be the most enjoyable combination since sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll…breathtaking comic firepower”
Kate Copstick, The Scotsman

"Delicious touches all through the show... anarchic and hilarious."
Julian Hall, The Independent

“Klangbang [is]…like being walloped on the head with a large inflatable hammer, but in a good way.”
Sharon Lougher, Metro

“The crowd quickly realises that it's in for something special, in all senses of the word…The range of characters is vast…the laughs here are constant and warmly honest.”
Sian Bevan, The List

EPISODIC SYNOPSES

EPISODE ONE - FIRE
This week sees the bungling trio dancing with disaster as the town goes up in flames. In the absence of the recently disbanded fire department, and with the council budget totaling a pitiful £1, the boys need to pull out the stops to save their jobs. Klangbury’s performing ‘talent’ - a cavalcade of local weirdos including the fat conjuror Derren Chillblaine - are rounded up for a fundraiser, and Steve tries to impress the Mayor with his dancing horsey; but will it be enough to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat?

EPISODE TWO - CRIME
An elusive thief cleans out the council office and wreaks havoc around town with his light-fingered high-jinks. The Mayor's in an even more foul temper than usual after she gets fleeced too, so the gang need to recover the mysterious crook’s swag, pronto. To cap it all, the entire police force have been stolen as well. And so, a crime busting initiative is launched, and the boys are aghast when the finger of suspicion is pointed at one of their number.

EPISODE THREE - INSPECTION
It’s Valentine’s Day, and Greg is in a funk as he pines for a lady friend to share his love of cake with. On top of that, the Klangbury Council office looks like a pigsty, and the annual inspection is imminent. The Mayor is splenetic as ever, and Greg’s mood takes a turn for the worse when the entire Department of Audience - save for one unspeakably ugly man in a vest - refuse to go out with him. Greg’s spirit is lifted when a beautiful stranger drops in - will he find happiness? And how did Marek, once Klangbury’s leading ladies’ man, become such a simpleton? All will be revealed…

EPISODE FOUR - TOURISM
The Klangbury Council klutzes are in a pickle again: Steve is in a coma, and The Annual Small Town of the Year competition is looming, with rival town Midford-on-Sea hot favourite to grab the gong. All Klangbury has to offer is the Annual Potato Roll, Bin World, and a distinctly off-putting theatrical showcase, as directed by pompous impresario Derek Upon-Tweed. It looks like curtains for Klang until a preposterous twist of fate hands them a lifeline, as a rich Hungarian Prince appears out of nowhere, with millions to spend. Greg takes part in the improbable Hungarian national sport to impress the flamboyant new arrival, hoping he will splash his cash, while Marek and Steve go hunting for goulash ingredients…

EPISODE FIVE - ELECTION
The Mayor is battling for re-election against the people’s favourite Barry O’Charmer, so Klang hit the campaign trail. A rousing sing-song sees the launch of a new political party with a familiar, and incredibly unfortunate acronym, and to add to the confusion, television chef AINSLEY HARRIOTT (yes, the real AINSLEY HARRIOTT), has apparently flipped his casserole dish lid, and has revenge in mind. Incredibly, these disparate and unlikely plot strands are neatly wrapped up in a climactic showdown. Who would have thought it?

EPISODE SIX - ALIEN
Greg is bristling with excitement and pride, as the Klangbury Centenary Parade looms, and our slacker-heroes have been trusted with immortalizing the memories of the town forever, in a time capsule. It’s an apparently simple task, but one that they seem destined to stuff up. As the ineptitude unfolds, in a distant galaxy, on an ice planet called Klung, three villainous aliens with super powers are banished into space for crimes too abominable to mention. These two worlds collide, courtesy of a giant catapult and a funny looking cuddly toy, resulting in chaos in Klangbury, and a punch up involving Father Christmas and the tooth fairy!
